    James Chapman – Active Transportation Story

    Listen in as James Chapman shares his active transportation story in the video below. James is a UCCS advanced Spanish language student participating in the Listening In program for seniors 55+. James prefers to take Mountain Metro Transit to class using his UCCS Mountain Lion Metro Card and encourages other students to do the same. These tap and go cards are funded by the UCCS Green Action Fund and distributed by UCCS.

    You can go green too. Consider replacing a car trip by walking, rolling, or using public transit. Don’t forget the Mountain Metro Transit #3 bus (Colorado Springs to Manitou Springs) is zero fare this year.

    Beautiful Colorado Springs recently published a great Facebook post reminding us of our region’s long legacy with trains, the real need for transportation diversity, and the Front Range Passenger Rail (FRPR) project, now branded as the Colorado Connector (CoCo).     2026 Manitou Springs Mayor’s Ride

    In honor of Bike Month, Manitou Springs Mayor Natalie Johnson, City Staff, and community members joined PaCMan on a bike ride celebrating the simple joy of cycling as a fun, healthy way to get around, connect with community, and experience our expanding multi-mobility infrastructure in Manitou Springs. PaCMan hopes that everyone makes the time to go on their own bike ride, no matter how big or small, during Bike Month.

    Ben Schmitt is the City of Manitou Springs Government’s Public Services Director and City Engineer, and regularly rides his bicycle to work. Ben enjoys replacing short car trips and errands with his electric bicycle which makes getting to/from home and work a breeze, and he encourages others to do the same. Riding a bike is a great way to exercise, to get around Manitou, supports Manitou’s multi-modal vision, and is an excellent way to experience our community in a different way.
